When it comes to weddings I hear a lot of people say”All that money for just one day.” As a destination wedding planner, I have to chime in and say that in the case of a destination wedding it is most certainly NOT just one day.
My last two weddings, just, for example, had the time of their lives in the week or so that they were in Ireland. Both from the east coast of America, each arrived about a week before their wedding day.
Nearly everyone in the wedding parties made a full holiday out of the wedding week either before or after or a little of both, taking the time to travel around the country – including the Brides.
In fact thank goodness that I didn’t need to get in touch with my Killarney bride because she was around the Ring of Kerry one day, overnight in Cobh on another, at the Rock of Cashel on another before meeting her guests for a welcome party, a full Spa day before the Rehearsal the next evening, and the wedding the day after. Ooh, and then there was the brunch the morning after the wedding before they headed off on honeymoon.
You don’t have to have that much activity on your destination wedding but I always advise on arriving a good few days early to have time to spend in your location and to take time to relax.
Destination weddings give each family {and your friends} the time to get to know each other and have a bit of out of the ordinary fun in a relaxed atmosphere. That, as they say, is priceless.
PS I can’t wait to share photos from both weddings with you!!! They’re gonna be fab!
