One thing I always discuss with my brides is theme. Some really shy away when I bring this up. I think they immediately picture Moulin Rouge or a fancy dress costume party or something like that. Well you can do that, if you really want to, but I mean something much more subtle. Your colour scheme is a theme; your style (black tie, country, vintage, fun and funky) is your theme.  Your theme is simply one thing that can be used throughout your wedding to create continuity and consistency.

One of my favourite and more subtle ways to theme your wedding is with a monogram. Custom monograms are pretty inexpensive and there are many, many sources from which you can get them. Monograms can be classic, suitable for a black tie affair, country style or symbolic of your destination wedding, vintage, fun and/or funky.

They can be used anywhere and in any form as you see above. On your aisle runner (Weddingrunner.com is the bomb!), cake, cake topper, on favours, projected on to the dance floor or wall, custom labels for your wine, menus, have stamps made, OMG the possibilities are endless but just (like anything) don’t go overboard! And remember that according to etiquette, you shouldn’t use your fiancé’s last name letter until after you are married. So not on invites or save the dates but at the reception is ok. Ok?
