Wedding Ceremony Music

I have to admit that this is one of my weaknesses. Maybe because music is also one of those very personal things that can stir up memories {good and bad} and people can be very specific of what they like and don’t like. Also, if you are having a church ceremony, the church has specific music that you can and can’t have.

Thankfully, I know a lot of musicians. Good musicians. And any musician worth their salt has the experience of what will work where and why and what the church will have and won’t, what they can do and are good at and simply won’t be right for them or you.

One fantastic Irish Singer/talent/musician/resource is Siobhan Oliver. She is based in Cork but travels throughout Munster and has great musicians at her fingertips.

She is a Soprano but has a varied repertoire ranging from classical, operatic and jazz all the way through to modern and traditional music.

Often times the ceremony tends to get brushed over in the wedding planning process but it is the most important part of the day. Siobhan will help you choose the musical pieces to create the ceremony and atmosphere you are looking for. She is worth her salt and doesn’t hide it because her website is a resource for music suggestions, her blog is a full wedding resource {including music of course!} and she is constantly helping brides as the Ceremony Music Expert on Weddingsonline.ie. Contact her and see what she can do for you!

If you not are not having a church ceremony you can do a google search for alternative wedding music. The possibilities are huge and because when you are trying to think of tunes they never pop into your head – at least they don’t for me! With a little search, you will find songs that pop out at you and think “ I never would have thought of that!”

One great place to start is a blog called Hi-Fi Weddings. It’s one of my new favs! Their theory? “We’d like to focus on those that want their wedding mix to be less “Top 40″ and more of music that is true to their soul.” Here is what one wedding they featured did for their outdoor ceremony:

Groom/Bridal Party processional song: Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What a Wonderful World
Bride’s Procession: Annie’s Song – John Denver
In ceremony: Forever – Ben Harper
In ceremony: This Kind of Love – Sister Hazel
Bride/Groom Recessional: Say Hey – Michael Franti (The groom carried the bride back down the aisle/grass and they  danced once he put her down – I LOVE that!)
