Art Deco Style

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

This is a repost. Call me lazy for drudging up past posts but I’m not really lazy. Just busy. {which is a good thing right?} And this repost from {omg} June 2010 {!} is  still valid because everyone is talking about the new Great Gatsby film {Leonardo is gunna look great in that} which is due out at the end of the year so another 1920’s revival looks to be on the cards.

So here we go back in time a bit for some gorgeousness that is still in style.

I was doing a bit of twittering yesterday and came across a great Art Deco blog post by Annabel from Love My Dress. Annabel is all about glamour, vintage and sexiness. She has great resources and inspiration for an art deco wedding {which she had herself} so with the sincerest form of flattery I am taking the inspiration and running with it to show you too.

My Favorite Things

Monday, January 9th, 2012

I love doing these posts because there are so many fun and crafty things out there that just need to be used. Often you find them in strange places but they are so perfect for weddings. We all look at lovely blog posts with great DIY itmes and think ‘well where do you find that??’

So these are a few things I have come across recently that I just loved and  have become my faves. – get your imagination caps on!

Japanese paper tapes.

Super colorful and fun. I found these on Happy Tape and there are so many colors and patterns you are sure to find something to wuit. Use them to wrap napkins, create a border on your table plan or menus, or use them as little drink flags on straws like this:

Pails, buckets, what ever your preference is to call them.

I’ve talked about my love for pails before because they are worth talking about again. So inexpensive for the number of uses they have. I found the simple ones above here. Use large ones as rustic wine or champagne buckets, mini ones for favours, how cute would it be to have your flower girl dropping petals from her little bucket?, to simply hold pens for your guestbook, as your escort cards {plant sprouting herbs in each} or just for flowers like this:

Textured paper

These beauties are on Paper Mojo where you can find an amazing range of textured and printed specialty papers to use for your menus, table plans, guestbooks, {again} wrap napkins just erywhere that you can think of! Like these invitations:

Now I’m just going to send you to a website that is one of my current faves. Cute Tape has so many little sweet items to add fun, interest and quirkyness to your wedding.

You can see items above that include colorful and plain tags, recycled ring stickers for the tags, plain shaped coasters for stamping, vintage stamp letters, mini clothespins, bakers twine, retro pens, Decorative bags for candy or cookies, paper straws, postage labels, more Japanese paper tape and oh so much more. I could just go crazy there!

So there you go. A few things I love and the resources to get going on your fabulous DIY projects!

2011 Review

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

The begining of January is a strange time isn’t it? Reflecting on the year just gone, it can be a little sad. As I put away all of my folders and files from 2011 I thought, ‘What a year!’ and was a bit sorry to see it go.

Aislinn Events had some seriously great weddings and our couples were the bomb. Love them. From Winter Wonderlands to Spring weddings on the beach, Summer tea parties and  back again. Each so very different with couples making their day their own.

We launched the Survey of Irish Bride & Grooms early in the year with Mrs.2Be which gave us fantastic information on what is important to couples and some insight on what you want and where you are getting it. With this knowledge, we as an industry, can communicate better and help you get what you want. Watch out for the survey again this year so we can monitor the trends as they change.

I was on television. Ireland AM here on TV3 to be precise. Yes, I was sittin on the sofa talking to Sinead and Mark about the results of the Survey of Irish Brides & Grooms. A little nervous at first, once we started the conversation about weddings it was all good!

It was year 2 for The Business of Weddings Ireland. A fantastic group of enthusiastic, fun and dedicated Irish wedding suppliers and vendors got together for the second year with wedding experts to talk about our businesses and learn how to reach bride, run our businesses well and get motivated. What a great time we had! – oh and we did learn a few things.

We did a stunning styled photoshoot with the most amazing suppliers. So professional and I simply can’t wait to show you!!! – watch this space!

There was huge traffic on the blog this year too. The top 5 post were………………………..

A wedding on Inishbeg

Beatuifully captured by Shane O’Neill of Aspect Photography.

Wonderful Colors

This was an American wedding shot by The Schultzes and even though I origionally posted it in 2010 it was still the second most viewed post in 2011. You must  be liking your color!

A Wedding on Coolbawn Quay was also super popular.

A great location, vintage gown and headpiece, David McClelland Photography couldn’t have gone wrong.

Lisa & Shane’s purple winter Castle wedding was next

Finally one of mine! With thanks to Aidan Olive Photography for letting me share.

And finally a Celtic Wedding styled shoot

Styled by Shannon O’Kelly {yes} it had to be Irish/Celtic themed didn’t it? Well, in any case it’s a beautiful one!

So no wonder I’m still tired! But I have to say even though I realize I will be busier in 2012, I’ll be so much more focused in 2012 that hopefully I’ll have more time for my self and the hubby. {that sounds like a New Year’s resolution doesn’t it?}

Thanks so much for a great year to all of my beautiful couples from 2011,everyone who participated in the survey and helped make it a success, commented, read & checked into the blog and attended the conference. What fabulous people and how lucky I am!

Best,

Annie
