Laser Cut Stationery

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

Yes I’m going to say it again, I love stationery. I love paper products and pretty folders and nice pens for my office but most of all I love wedding stationery and invitations because that seems to be where paper products and stationery gets especially creative.

Engraved, lithographed, letterpressed and – laser cut. Which is what I’m talking about today.

Laser cutting is a technology that uses a laser {obviously} to precisely cut materials. It used to be used mainly for industrial manufacturing but is now getting more creative and used by businesses and hobbyists with stunning and elaborate results. The super fine filigree designs are gorgeous and if you like doilies you will love these.

Many companies do laser cut wedding invitations but I am focusing on one company in this post, The Hummingbird Paper Company because they do lots more than just the wedding invitation including a bespoke design service to really personalize your invites.

Here are some of their beauties:

Just so delicate and lovely. Again, all of these are from The Hummingbird Card Company who are based in the UK.

Letterpress Wedding Invitations

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

This is a re-post of a blog post I did a while back. I am re-posting it to celebrate Pamela Farrell of Farrell & Chase winning the WeddingsOnline.ie Best Wedding Supplier Website 2009 and Top 100 Wedding Supplier for 2009. Which was no surprise to me because she has a great and beautiful product with her letterpress invitations. So here we go again! and Congrats again to Pamela!

Ok, I know I’ve mentioned that I love stationery but I’ll say it again; I love stationery. And my favorite type of stationery is letterpress. I’m not sure where this adoration came from (don’t laugh) but you know that feeling you get when you see something you really love? I get it with beautiful letterpress stationery.press

Letterpress is fairly new to Ireland. Actually, maybe I should say very old and enjoying a revival.

It is a 15th century artisan type of printing in which heavy cotton paper is pressed one sheet at a time onto the inked printing plates thus causing an indentation and the transfer of color. A different plate must be made and the paper pressed separately for each color. This results in a beautiful tactile individual paper each time. You really have to see it and hold them to fall in love like I have.

Pamela Farrell of Farrell & Chase explains it much better than I on her blog here.

I contacted Pamela as soon as I started my wedding planning business because I want to keep up with what talented designers and artisans are doing here and to my knowledge Farrell & Chase is the only one doing letterpress invitations, save the dates and personal stationery in Ireland. Pamela has a graphic design background and a great eye for vintage and all things beautiful. Just check out the other items on her blog!

Her work is definitely worth look for not only wedding invitations but baby announcements, place cards and personal stationery(I want!) so I won’t keep you from it any longer.

Aren't these fab for a destination wedding!
