Art Deco Style

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

This is a repost. Call me lazy for drudging up past posts but I’m not really lazy. Just busy. {which is a good thing right?} And this repost from {omg} June 2010 {!} is  still valid because everyone is talking about the new Great Gatsby film {Leonardo is gunna look great in that} which is due out at the end of the year so another 1920’s revival looks to be on the cards.

So here we go back in time a bit for some gorgeousness that is still in style.

I was doing a bit of twittering yesterday and came across a great Art Deco blog post by Annabel from Love My Dress. Annabel is all about glamour, vintage and sexiness. She has great resources and inspiration for an art deco wedding {which she had herself} so with the sincerest form of flattery I am taking the inspiration and running with it to show you too.

A Wedding at Coolbawn Quay

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

The blog post began life as something totally different than what it has now become but I don’t care because we all love real weddings {especially Irish ones} and this is a particularly gorgeous one.

In fact as soon as I saw it I was on the phone to David McCelland, the photographer who beautifully and creatively captured all of the fabulous detail in this wedding of Sheena and Dave at Coolbawn Quay. She is just gorgeous and obviously has an enviable style.

This is a post fairly full of photos but I don’t care. I wanted you to see as much as you can but there are more on David’s website here where he tells us that he thinks this is one of the most beautiful weddings he has ever shot.

You can certainly see why.

Did you catch all of that detail??? The painted sign as you arrive at Coolbawn Quay, The wicker heartshaped chalkboard hanging on the wall inside the the bridal suite, the socks for the boys, the glasses for the bridal party, Sheena’s amazing dress and stunning headpiece, the beautiful ribbons in the church, the order of service booklets, the little tags on each and every straw all handmade by Sheena, the dessert table, the bunting, the paper pom poms, sweet bags, table plans!

Pure fabulousness! A huge congratulations to Sheena and Dave, great work Sheena and David McCelland, thank you for letting me share!

1950’s Glamour

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

I am a big Oscars fan. I absolutely love staying up late to watch it every year. Of course part of that is the red carpet for which all wedding bloggers and general fashionistas are rearin to reviewing all of the fab and not so fab Oscar gowns and how great or not so great they would be as wedding gowns.
Today we will simply take some inspiration from Hollywood and have an ole gawk at some old style glamour.
Hollywood is glamorous full stop but to choose an era of Hollywood style may not be so easy. You could start really with the 20’s and all of the Art Deco styling {my fav}, or move in the 40’s or 50’s for more great inspiration.
I’m going for the 50’s inspired style and think these are not just pretty but really fun too. I hope you like them.

I’ll have to do a 20’s Art Deco day and 40’s Swing soon too!

Also to note if you are interested in a Vintage style for your wedding visit Frock Around the Clock for information and location on their vintage wedding fairs.
