An Elegant Affair

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Time to show you a few photos of one of my couples who got married at the most beautiful little church, Our Lady Star of the Sea church in Ballycotton and had their reception at the always elegant Catlemartyr Resort.

I met Victoria and Sean at another of my weddings and it was immediate hugs when we met. They are such a warm loving couple {and gorgeous to top it off!} as are their families and that extended into their wedding day.

Tori wanted an elegant and glamorous day and she got it in her stunning gown, carrying avalanche roses and a very elegant venue. Here are a few shots by Sean’s aunt and uncle, photographers Margaret and Hugh O’Brien.

The warmth and love were shared as favours for their guests were abundant with a full table full of items for male and female guests to choose from like, bathbombs, oriental fans, cigars, personalized golf balls and tees, Black & Greens chocolates, mini notebooks and parasols for the children.

Special thanks go to Kate Noonan for Tori’s makeup and Hair by Marie. Both of whom were so wonderful and Tori was delighted with. Flowers were by Terry at Shades of  Bloom and guests danced the night away to Til Death Do Us Party.

Congratulations again to Tori and Sean and thank you for letting me share your wedding day!

Fairytale Wedding

Monday, October 24th, 2011

Lily and Devin do things big. They are adventurous and  fun and once they make a decision on something they make it happen.

Devin proposed to Lily by hiring a 45 foot long billboard on the side of the highway in America. That is big! Their wedding plans were big and their wedding was full of activities and surprises for their guests.

The wedding ceremony and reception were held at Dromoland Castle. A stunning location so Lily didn’t worry about the décor and put her thought into creating a day and full week that her guests would never forget.

Upon their arrival in the country, they and their friends hopped on boats for self drive Shannon River cruises. Not only that, but a scavenger hunt was organized over those few days with the winning boat announced at the reception.  Great competition between everyone.

The Ceremony took place outside facing the castle with surprises on the day including the groom arriving to the outdoor ceremony on horseback, the bride arriving in a horse and carriage, the rings were delivered by an owl {yes, an owl!}, the aforementioned 45 foot billboard was there too, and a casino was the evening’s entertainment.

Here are a few photos taken by the wonderful and fun Camryn and Ben Holt who flew over from America to shoot the wedding.

And the guys had great fun on the grounds before the wedding as you can see!

And a little horsing around. Heehee

During the drinks reception the guests basked in the sunshine, enjoyed drinks and a falconry display with a few of the amazing birds they keep at Dromoland.

After that, the party was started. And I mean started! Lily and Devin did their first dance before dinner and the guests danced throughout the meal in between courses before the Casino opened and more dancing afterwards.

The excellent and kind staff at Dromoland didn’t know what hit them! – but I must say they rolled with the flow of the day and were completely accommodating.

Thanks again to all of the staff at Dromoland Castle, to Camryn and Ben for letting me show the photos, to Rebecca May, Mark from Dublin DJs for keeping them dancing all night!, Sean at Dromoland for the Carriage, Dave ad Dromoland for the birds, Tom from Premier Casino and Richard and Les from Frame It Weddings for this great video of the day.

And last but not least, thanks so much to Lily and Devin for letting me share in making your day so fantastic! Congratulations!

Wedding Party of Two

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

Today’s post is a little story about a couple in love. Really in love and determined to have the wedding of their dreams.

I found these two to be pretty inspiring. So much so that all of the suppliers I hired for them agreed. The photographer and I both cried when they said their vows.

Ilya and Anna are Russian, fairly young and simply don’t have a lot of money. Essentially, the groom had been saving for them to come to Ireland to get married pretty much from the time they first met {how sweet is that!} because she had always wanted to come here. They were coming on their own {yes, just the two of them} because although they had their families’ blessings, they just could not afford to travel.

They have no connections to Ireland other than the brides love of Irish dancing, Irish music and even it’s history. They think “it is so wonderful and beautiful place!” So a wedding in Ireland was their way to connect to this country even without Irish heritage. They would make their own history and connection here!

Specifically, they said, “Here are our modest wishes:
Location – romantic and beautiful place, building or hotel, may be on the seaside or with other picturesque scenery;
Music and flowers during the ceremony followed by a nice dinner somewhere
maybe a little excursion to some historic building or monuments or just sight-seeing tour  and for a photographer.”

Their budget for the day was €1300 for everything including my services. A challenge.

So we proceeded with plans and mountains of paperwork {Visas, international drivers licenses, getting all documents translated etc} , we had all of their flights and accommodation booked, the registrar, the ceremony location, officiant, musician, flowers and photographer, everything for their wedding day of 13th September when low and behold! On the 5th August , the Irish Embassy in Russia denied them Visas to get married here.

The groom said, ‘Don’t worry I’ll pay you in any case for all of the work you have done.’ But hold on! There must be something we can do. So they prepared for an appeal {which takes 6 weeks to process} and I rang our local Ministers office who was a great help and put in a call to the Irish Embassy. After a lot of back and forth and explaining {maybe some begging} they were finally approved 5 days before they were meant to leave Russia to come to Ireland.

I think basically the reason they inspired me so much is their independence and desire together to make their wedding day what they wanted. As young as they are, to come to a country to get married when they have never traveled before and don’t have the best knowledge of the language really is something. I mean, I have had couples who are older, speak English as their native language, are well travelled that needed more help from me than these two.

They just had a great spirit and here are a few photos:

And after the ceremony it was all fun and laughter.

A super big thanks to everyone who helped make Ilya and Anna’s wedding day {and whole trip to Ireland} the best time they have ever had.

Makeup – Clodagh Clusky of Pink here in Dingle, Hair – Cathriona Rohan, accommodation was Castlewood House, Officiant – Fionnbar Walsh, Venue – The Blasket Island Centre, Music – Con Durham and Photographer – Mags, Thank you so much!
