Intimate Castle Wedding Venues Ireland

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

It is no secret that I love small intimate weddings and exclusive use venues.

As I am happily researching venues for a few different couples at the moment, I thought I would show you a few {because there are so many} of the wonderful locations around the country that I have found. They are a nicely off the beaten track for privacy and pure luxury

The first is

Hilton Park Co Monaghan

Luxury accommodation and an Irish cultural experience in this wonderful country house amongst paintings, furniture and heirlooms handed down over the centuries. Hilton House is indulgent relaxation for anyone who stays there.

Much more than just a hotel or a guesthouse it is a grand country house offering luxury accommodation and real home grown country house cooking.  A real family home magically situated on a 600 acre secluded private estate far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Sleeps up to 14 of your favorite people.

Clonlais House Co Roscommon

I fell in love with this one. A Victorian Italianate style. Clonalis House has been sensitively restored over the last decade is an elegant house with a large collection of family portraits, telling a unique and interesting story.

B&B and self catering with dining opportunities for 25 guests.

Castle Ward Co Down

Castle Ward is an event location only. There is no accommodation but imagine having this grand mansion available to you and your guests for your wedding ceremony and reception.

Situated in a stunning location overlooking Strangford Lough, the lawns rise up to the unique 18th century house and its Gothic façade. This fascinating house features Gothic and Classical styles of architectural treatment, internally and externally.

There is a beautiful 820 acre walled demesne where you will find an exotic sunken garden and paths that wind their way through woodland and suddenly open onto the quiet shores of the Lough.

No accommodation but you can have your reception for up to 55 guests in the house.

These fabulous venues can be hired for birthdays, anniversaries or just old friends getting together for a weekend. Contact them for details on everything!

And remember these are only a few of what is on offer. There is a castle to suit every taste in Ireland!

An Alternative Wedding in a Traditional Location

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

This was an intimate wedding all about creating a new family.

When I met Philippe and Violaine it was clear they adore each other and the dream for their wedding was something very natural, family orientated and  full of traditional Irish music. Even though they are French, Violaine and some of her friends  play a number of instruments and love Irish music.

We chose the Dingle Skellig Hotel as the location for their wedding and even though it appears to be more of a traditional venue it was the perfect location for this alternative and intimate wedding. The staff and management there couldn’t have done more for them. In fact I would venture to say that anyone in Dingle who came across this couple and family over the days there were here for their wedding really took them in.

Here are a few photos of the day taken by Kerry wedding photographer Niall McGann. I was delighted when I saw the photos because he really captured the spirit of the day.

There was no meringue gown or morning suit for Violaine and Philippe. They stayed true to their own natural style with their dress for the outdoor ceremony.

RomyMcAuley of A Beautiful Ceremony was the ceremony officiant and worked with the couple to create a ceremony that suited them and the joining of their family with a sand ceremony and vows in French. The two girls also sang a song for their parents. Totally adorable and I wish we had had a video of it.

As mentioned, the ceremony was full of traditional Irish music which continued on after the ceremony for a bit of dancing.

The wedding party took a tour of Dingle Bay {along with the musicians Aoife and Dierdre Granville and Con Durham} where Fungi, the Dingle dolphin made his appearance to delight the children {and adults!}.

The couple took a short walk around town before a fabulous dinner for all in the Dingle Skellig Hotel and on to more traditional music afterward in Dick Mack’s bar in town which was arranged just for them.

So a super big thanks to everyone and credit where due to:

Flowers: Sandra Cremin of Wedding Flowers Dingle who put so much thought into the flowers for Violaine.

Hair: Tricia O’Sullivan of {award winning} Munster Mobile Hairdressing

Make up: The Peninsula Spa at the Dingle Skellig Hotel

Venue: As mentioned, The Dingle Skellig Hotel

Officiant: Romy McAuley of A Beautiful Ceremony

Musicians: Aoife and Deirdre Granville and Piper {and one of my fav people} Con Durham

Boat: Dingle Bay Charters

And again, Photographer: Niall McGann

I’ll finish with this photo. To me this is the photo that really captures the day.

I love my  job.

The Intimate Wedding

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

So we had the smallest most intimate wedding we have ever had yesterday with 6 guests and it was great! They are a lovely American couple who came over with two family and two friends and got married in the middle of their trip here to Ireland.

And the Bride wore vintage

They had never been here before and after planning their wedding and organizing their Ireland itinerary, I met them {for the first time} in Dingle to show them around a bit. Because I had worked so closely with them on everything, it was like waiting for friends to arrive and I was quite excited.

I love small weddings and while some people just don’t get it we met more on their travels that said they wish they had done exactly the same. Not only that but the suppliers and wedding vendors that I hired gave each one of them so much more personal attention and extra effort to make the day special that it was a joy.

The Priest felt closer to them to say some more personal words and let them say words to each other, the hairdresser, Tricia from Munster Mobile Hairdressing did all of the girls’ hair even though she was just meant to be there for the bride, Leona from Every Occasion Florist who did the  two beautiful bouquets added  some extra  special touches to the church that were over and above the call, Eoin Duignan, the musician is sending on one of his CDs as a gift {and we very nearly talked him in to coming to the pub with us after the ceremony!} and Weibke Schmidt from Murphy’s ice Cream in Dingle put so much love and care into baking the bride’s requested Strawberry Shortcake cake that I think she nearly didn’t trust me with it! Not to mention everyone at Ballyseede Castle who helped them {and me!} at every turn and served up a fantastic meal giving them all of the attention that they would to a larger wedding spending 10 times as much.

So if that isn’t enough to convince you to keep things intimate, here are 10 more reasons to take up this new trend of smaller weddings! This list is Intimate Weddings Blog which is a great resource.

1. You get to celebrate one of the biggest days of your life surrounded by people who love you.

The Bride's Bouquet

2. You can feel more relaxed on your wedding day. Because you’ll be surrounded by friends and family and putting on more of a celebration than a production.

3. You can save money by having an intimate wedding but still have all {if not more!} of the frills.

4. You can splurge. Some couples choose a small guest list not necessarily because their budgets are small, but because they can pull out all the stops and have a truly lavish wedding. You get more ‘wow’ for less wallet with a small wedding.

5. You have more options when choosing a venue. Since you won’t need a large space to accommodate your guests you will be open to more creative venue options like Guesthouses, great restaurants, art galleries or even a pub!

6. You have more freedom to customize your wedding to your own tastes, make things unique and more of a reflection of the two of you.

7. You get to spend time with your guests. How many weddings have made you feel like a stranger fulfilling a social obligation? Small weddings aren’t like that. The bride and groom can spend time with each of their guests.

8. You can make your guests feel at home. Because you will be able to spend more time with your guests, they will feel more at home at your wedding and they will all know each other or  have a better opportunity  to get to know one another.

9. You can get your guests involved. A small wedding will give you the opportunity to get your loved ones involved in your special day. Also, it’s a lot easier pulling off a DIY wedding with a guest list.

10. You can have a wedding that people will remember. Because your wedding won’t be typical, the kind your guests have been to over and over again, – your wedding and your time together will be remembered.

Now that you know the benefits, discuss and consider it for your own!

PS I’m not publishing pictures of them yet because they are still on tour/holiday/honeymoon and they need to see them first!
