1950’s Glamour

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

I am a big Oscars fan. I absolutely love staying up late to watch it every year. Of course part of that is the red carpet for which all wedding bloggers and general fashionistas are rearin to reviewing all of the fab and not so fab Oscar gowns and how great or not so great they would be as wedding gowns.
Today we will simply take some inspiration from Hollywood and have an ole gawk at some old style glamour.
Hollywood is glamorous full stop but to choose an era of Hollywood style may not be so easy. You could start really with the 20’s and all of the Art Deco styling {my fav}, or move in the 40’s or 50’s for more great inspiration.
I’m going for the 50’s inspired style and think these are not just pretty but really fun too. I hope you like them.

I’ll have to do a 20’s Art Deco day and 40’s Swing soon too!

Color and create 4 different color schemes.

I’m playing around with color palettes again today with the view to getting you to mix and match and change things up a bit. The starting point for me is Colour Lovers. Some people use other websites to make color palettes Color Lovers is my preference. – and they have a wedding section!

For this, as soon as you go to the ‘create a palette’ tab it gives you a starting color which of course you can change if you already have a color in mind, but for me and these posts I like to challenge myself {albeit just a little} and use whatever they give me. Today I got this:

which I see as a lovely coral shade. Then played around with some coordinating colors and added little hint of a contrast for a lovely warm and a modern palette like this.

Change it up with some more bright accent colors and it’s a spring/summer feeling.

If you are more the classic and elegant type, shades and tones of the same color will be more your style as in the color palette below:

This is quite a tropical color too so for the last one I added a real punch of turquoise. Very fun and lively!

Just a little example how if you have a favourite color you don’t just have to have the bridesmaids, the table runners, the ribbons and the flowers to be EXACTLY the same color. change it up, mix it up and you will get a totally different feeling from your wedding color.

Try it!!

PS Photos, with exception of the third classic color palette, are from Junebug Weddings who have a great image gallery which you can narrow down by color and type of photo you are looking for {reception, table decor, fashion, flowers etc}
