Love this engagement photo by the fabulous Jasmin Star.
Today we are connecting with the American trends a bit.
It must be no surprise that I take a lot of inspiration from what is going on in America. Things there are constantly changing and updating.
Engagement sessions with their photographers is one thing that couples are doing over there and according to Neil Colton, my photographer today, it is almost mandatory to so a session with a couple before the wedding.
Personally I think it is a great idea. It’s fun, you get to know your photographer before the wedding and you get some great more casual photos to keep forever too. Neil says ‘I take them very seriously (though we have great fun!) and consider them like an editorial assignment. I shoot them for a story.’‘ Think creatively to tell your story. Return to the place you first met, or where he proposed, or your local pub!
Have a lookie here at a couple that Neil shot in Washington DC.

Neil began his life as a commercial photographer. Then one day he met a Pulitzer prize winning photographer specializing in images of people, saw his portfolio and left commercial photography to work as a photojournalist and documentary photographer, while training to photograph weddings and portraits. I think that you can still see some of the documentary style though.

In 2008, Neil committed to full time portrait and wedding photography. His documentary work has been exhibited and published and he also does editorial photography for magazines and publications.

Neil is ready to travel if you decide you absolutely have to have him! And check out his blog for more beautiful pictures and some inspiration!
