Saturday Quickie

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

I must admit that Halloween isn’t one of my favorite holidays. I know that goes totally against what a lot of people feel but well, that’s just how it is. I won’t, however, turn down some fund candy mixes though and the mix of sweet and savory in this recipe is one I’ll absolutely be keeping.

So Happy Halloween and party on!

Halloween Candy Snack Mix

adapted from Christina Tosi from Food & Wine

2 cups coarsely broken pretzels

1/4 cup light brown sugar

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1/3 cup dry milk powder

6 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 regular bag Reese’s Pieces

1 Hershey bar broken up into small pieces

1. Preheat oven to 275F. Line a small baking sheet and set aside.

2. Melt the butter and pour it into a large bowl. Stir in the sugars and milk powder until fully combined. Stir in the pretzels and spread them on a lined baking sheet. Bake for about 20 minutes until light brown and fragrant.

3. Allow the pretzels to cool completely before breaking them apart and adding them to a small bowl and tossing them with the Reese’s Pieces and Hershey Bar pieces. Serve.

Saturday Quickie

Saturday, August 20th, 2011

I haven’t done any foodie posts for a while and recently Stumbledupon this yummy recipe.

Who doesn’t love brownies? and I also love chocolate covered pretzels {haven’t seen any here in Ireland though :-( } and my old home favourite, peanut butter so you can see why these caught my attention!

Peanut Butter Fudge Pretzel Brownie

Ahh! A little sweet and a little salty. I’d love to find one of theses in a lovely little wax paper bag like this one from Jilly Bean Kids after a wedding

or to keep the energy up while dancing. – Or maybe I’ll just make them next weekend!

I found them on How Sweet it is and you can get the recipe here.

Enjoy!

A Day Off

Monday, August 1st, 2011

So yesterday I took {most} of the day off and visited the Taste of Killarney at the Malton Hotel Gardens in Killarney Co Kerry, of course.

A lovely day out to gorge nibble, taste and drink all that the Southwest of Ireland has to offer as well as revisit friends and meet new suppliers with new ideas.

I tasted a good few lovely wines, tasted kangaroo for the first time {it’s pretty good actually}, had a coffee from Lir Chocolates along with some fab flowerless chocolate cake with homemade hazelnut praline from the girls at Cloudberry Bakery, watched Sam from Cloudberry show us how to make cake pops, nibbled some of the best peanut butter I have ever had {and I love peanut butter} from Glor Foods which included a honey peanut butter and a chocolate peanut butter {!} and generally mingled and munched.

Wedding wise, I did find a few new items that I thought were pretty cool. A macaroon Pyramid from Cocoa Atelier which is pretty cool, and found Pure Sushi who do Sushi with an Irish twist.

I love the idea of having a Sushi station at a wedding or serving it instead of canapes.

I also met Colum from La Rousse foods who introduced me to a lovely sparkling red wine, Brachetto while eating the macaroons off of the pyramid.

All in all it was a great day out and {nearly} day off. Looking forward to next year!
