Trendy flower or not, I’m loving poppies right now. I’ll admit that poppies very often get mixed up with anemones {I do it too} because they look really really similar and Wikipedia tells me they are of the same species. They look beautiful together though so let’s run with them both!

I have a bride who just reminds me of coral colored poppies and with hers being a beach-side wedding I think I may be right on target. Then there is another who is looking for bold red poppies for her bouquet and her bridesmaids are wearing yellow. Such a statement!

Maybe it’s the fresh picked feel poppies always have, the range of colors or just the innocence of them, but what every the appeal is we will see a lot of them in the next year so here is some poppy prettiness!

I love this table of poppies. Too sweet.

Go all out with them and use poppies on your invitations

So that’s it. Poppies are what I’m looking at this season!

Flower Trends

Ok, well, I know I haven’t done many blog posts {I know, I’m lame} for a while and I also haven’t done one of my favorite types of blog posts for a while, a flower trends post.

I’m not a floral expert but I do love flowers and I also love to pick out certain flowers that you see a lot but really don’t get the attention or credit that some other flowers do. It’s like they are supporting flowers where roses and peonies {or something} is the star of the bouquet. A little not fair.

For a while I’ve been admiring these

Aren’t they adorable? Now you look at them you know you have seen them before so do you know what they are?

They are Scabiosa Pods.

I think I first noticed them when Leona of Every Occasion Florist put them in a bouquet for a photo shoot we did.

{I still love that bouquet} Do you see them in there? And don’t ask me what everything else is. That’s another blog post! but they add such a nice texture and contrast.

Here are a few more arrangements and bouquets I came across that had Scabiosa pods in them.

How about this gorgeous green and white arrangement by Botanic Art, and this one

They can be used in lighter colored bouquets and arrangements too

and this lovely I saw on Floral Verde

Scaboisa are also perfect for buttonholes and boutonnieres

and finally, I loved this bouquet so had to show it to you.

It’s very much a modern take on the old cascade bouquet but so fresh and relaxed feeling. And I’m sorry, I don’t know where I found this image so if anyone contacts me I’m happy to give credit where due.

So that’s it for me for now. I hope you like your little flower lesson and if you are doing something a little quirky, scabiosa pods will fit in nicely so surprise your florist and ask for them by name!

Saturday Quickie

Saturday, June 16th, 2012

Personally I think flowers are essential to a wedding. Not just for the bride to carry down the aisle but everywhere from on the tables {of course}  to in the ladies room {it’s all in the detail}.

I also know budgets can be tight {believe me, I know!} but I also think it’s important to be realistic with your budget, to know where your money is going and why things cost as much as they do. Below is an example. It may be an extreme example but it’s a good one.

So you love the look of beautiful lush tall floral centerpieces and must have them. You go to the florst and show her this.

Do you think that will fit into your budget? Dunno. How much would that cost then?

Before you answer I will say that it is a Preston Bailey design.

Ok. Now you can see how much it is and why here in Preston’s own words.

Thoughts??
