Art Deco Style

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

This is a repost. Call me lazy for drudging up past posts but I’m not really lazy. Just busy. {which is a good thing right?} And this repost from {omg} June 2010 {!} is  still valid because everyone is talking about the new Great Gatsby film {Leonardo is gunna look great in that} which is due out at the end of the year so another 1920’s revival looks to be on the cards.

So here we go back in time a bit for some gorgeousness that is still in style.

I was doing a bit of twittering yesterday and came across a great Art Deco blog post by Annabel from Love My Dress. Annabel is all about glamour, vintage and sexiness. She has great resources and inspiration for an art deco wedding {which she had herself} so with the sincerest form of flattery I am taking the inspiration and running with it to show you too.

Style Trends

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

I said to someone recently that metallics and a bit more bling were coming on trend for 2012. Not that vintage or rustic is gone, it’s just that I think we are pretty much ready to come back to a bit more sparkle and shine. It’s like everyone is a little more optimistic and we want to show it.

A great example of where this sparkle and shine is coming in is mercury glass. You may have seen it popping up but not paid much attention. Well pay attention! Mercury glass can absolutely be used in your vintage wedding as candle holders, votives or for your flowers. – and you can make it. Yes you can take an ordinary glass whatever and mercury it! But more on that later. For now here are some pretty pictures to inspire you.

Now your DIYers, how do you create these lovelies? I present you with 2 tutorials. One by Martha and another by Anna. Believe it or not I find Anna’s more detailed. I think Martha just has the touch so maybe she doesn’t  have to work as hard but I need all the detail I can get.

I may just try this for one of my girls!

Vintage Furniture Rentals in Ireland

Monday, September 5th, 2011

A little while ago I did a blog post on vintage furniture rental company, found, in America and did a little winging because we need something like that in Ireland. Well at the time I also said I may be on to something here and sure enough I have them.

They are Historic Interiors, a film and television props hire company who I have talked into will hire props for wedding and wedding photoshoots. They  are based in Lusk, Co Dublin.

So where do I begin? Firstly they don’t have a fancy website; in fact they don’t have a website at all though I understand that may be in the works. What they do have is a warehouse full of furniture, props and everything you can image from every era and style. Sofas, chairs, soft furnishings, lamps, clocks, typewriters, suitcases, picture frames {full and empty} and quite a few fun and sometimes bizarre items.

Killian McNulty runs the place and is a world of knowledge on not only his stock but the eras and styles to create pretty much any  look you would be going for.

I’ll show you a few photos and samples but please note a few things: I was there looking for some specific items and this does not even come close to the selection of items for hire. Also they are taken with my phone so the photos aren’t the best. Lastly, I did hire some items from Killian for a wedding recently and they will arrive clean and ready to go.

Suitcases galore from retro to vintage.

There is soooo much more than I could possibly show so contact Killian and tell him Annie sent you!!
